Pingniner vs Pingdom
Pingdom is the incumbent — the name people reach for when they think "uptime monitoring", now part of SolarWinds. It is aimed at a larger buyer than Pingniner is, and it is priced and packaged accordingly.
Choose Pingdom if
You want real user monitoring and full transaction scripting from an established vendor, and you have the budget that goes with it.
Choose Pingniner if
You want to know when things break, without buying two products and a procurement process to find out.

Where Pingniner is different
One product instead of two
Pingdom splits synthetic monitoring and real user monitoring into separately priced products. If you want both, you buy both. Pingniner has one plan, and everything in it is included at every tier — every monitor type, every notification channel, status pages and custom domains.
A free plan that is not a countdown
Pingdom gives you fourteen days. Pingniner gives you five monitors indefinitely, with no card. If all you need is to watch a handful of things, you never have to pay us at all.
Infrastructure, not just endpoints
Pingdom watches your site from outside. Pingniner does that too, and also runs an agent on your servers and workstations, watches your mail server against the DNSBLs, and takes heartbeats from your cron jobs. Same dashboard, same bill.
Priced for a small team
Pingdom is built for organisations with a procurement process. If you are one person, or five, the gap in price is not subtle and neither is the gap in how long it takes to get started.
Where Pingdom is stronger
Every one of these is a real reason to pick them instead.
Real user monitoring
Pingdom measures what actual visitors experience, from their browsers, on their connections. Synthetic checks cannot tell you that. We do not have it.
Transaction scripting
Multi-step scripted journeys — log in, add to basket, check out — monitored end to end. Pingniner checks single URLs and looks for keywords, which is a much blunter instrument.
Page speed pedigree
Pingdom has been the reference for web performance testing for well over a decade, and the depth of their reporting reflects it.
The name on the door
Sometimes the answer to "what are we using for monitoring" needs to be a name the board recognises. That is a real requirement and Pingdom satisfies it.
Questions
Is Pingniner a drop-in replacement for Pingdom?
For uptime, response time, certificate and content checks, yes. For real user monitoring or scripted multi-step transactions, no — those are not things we do.
Why not list Pingdom's prices here?
Because they block automated access to their pricing pages, so we cannot verify the figures the way we do for everyone else on this site. Quoting a price we could not check would be worse than linking to theirs.
What do I lose by moving?
Real user monitoring, transaction scripting, and the depth of their performance reporting. What you gain is servers, workstations, blacklists and heartbeats in the same place, on one flat plan.
